THIRD GENDER FOR NEPAL

Sex or gender as long as it may be known to only two, male and female. However, the government of Nepal since this year has set a new sex or gender into three, namely gay or homosexual.

Recognition of new sex the first time in the world is considered a victory for equal rights for same-sex enthusiasts in the country of 29 million people. Previously, the recognition of homosexuality and the elimination of gender discrimination has been done in this country three years ago in 2007.

Recognition of new sex laws set out in Nepal and written in the certificate of residence, including the resident identity card. With this, the gay and transgender Nepal have equal rights in employment, livelihood and various other things that can be done by heterosexual people.

Statistics Bureau spokesman Nepal, Bikash Bista, said that the new gender categorization is an attempt to change the traditional image of Nepal from a conservative country into a moderate state that has a new perspective.

However, the ratification of the recognition of gender is not an easy matter. Gay activist Sunil Babu Pant, said that they should press the government for recognition of their sexual orientation.

"It was only when we say will bring the issue to court, the government approved a new gender categorization," said Babu.

If only brought to justice, Babu and his family will most likely win. This is thanks to the passing of termination rules gender discrimination and sexual orientation by the Supreme Court of Nepal in 2007. This law also regulates the freedom of a person in Nepal to choose their gender.

Looking ahead, activists will pressure the government to legalize same-sex marriage. "There are 50 to 60 gay couples waiting to wed after same-sex marriage legalized," said Babu.
